On January 23rd and 24th, an event took place at Palazzo Brancaccio in Rome, presenting the MICS project, the extended partnership "Made in Italy Circular and Sustainable." The University of Brescia is actively involved in this significant initiative aimed at making the Italian industry more circular and sustainable, with a focus on strengthening key sectors of the Italian economy.
The National Recovery and Resilience Plan (PNRR) will allocate substantial funds to support this ambitious mission, intending to promote sustainable development and digital competitiveness. Key sectors involved include clothing, furniture, and industrial and mechanical automation, collectively generating about 50% of the value of industrial production.
The MICS partnership is funded by the Ministry of University and Research (MUR) with a total investment of 125 million euros, of which 114 million come directly from PNRR funds, while the remaining 11 million are provided by private entities. A collaborative commitment between public universities, including the University of Brescia with its departments (DII, DIMI, DEM, and DICATAM), and businesses has been outlined, aiming to facilitate the return and valorization of Italian talents in the fields of research and industry.
The program anticipates the hiring of approximately 600 researchers by 2025, highlighting a concrete commitment to stimulate research and foster industry growth. The eight thematic research areas of the MICS project include digital design, circular industrial processes, innovative business models, and green, sustainable products and materials.
This strategic partnership will not only strengthen the "Made in Italy" sector but will also contribute to the development of innovative and sustainable solutions for the future of the Italian industry.
