The artistic-scientific project "Un Suono in Estinzione - U.S.I.E. (A Sound in Extinction)" supported by Enel Green Power since 2021, collects sounds generated by the movement and fusion of the glacial mass within its core and the surrounding environment. The aim is to calibrate parameters of mathematical models predicting the evolution of the Adamello glacier.

The A.S.E. project is structured in three phases:

  • Phase 1: Glacier data collection campaign.
  • Phase 2: Scientific analysis of the collected data.
  • Phase 3: Dissemination through artistic works and scientific publications.

During the summer months of 2021, 2022, and 2023, several missions were conducted on the Adamello glacier to record over 14,000 hours of sounds. This was achieved using 4 bioacoustic recorders capable of capturing 24 hours a day for weeks, revealing the most "hidden" sonic phenomena occurring within the glacier. This process resulted in a unique and continuously updated sound database.

Professor Roberto Ranzi, Professor of Hydraulic and Maritime Constructions and Hydrology at the University of Brescia and scientific director of the project for the University of Brescia, appeared in the Linea Bianca episode on Passo del Tonale on January 13th, 2024.
