On Monday 23 February, in Aula 1 of the Department of Law in Via San Faustino 41, Università di Brescia welcomed 73 Erasmus students of 34 different nationalities, from 28 partner universities, who arrived in the city in recent days to begin the second semester of the academic year.

The total number of students entering the Erasmus+ programme to study at the Università di Brescia thus rises to 201 for the 2025/2026 academic year (up from 191 the previous year), setting a new positive record for UniBs. About half of the students come from Germany, Spain and France, but their origins are particularly varied, thanks in part to the international component of the Erasmus Mundus Joint Master EMIMEP programme, which involves students from all over the world.

The meeting opened with institutional greetings from the Rector, Prof. Francesco Castelli, the Vice-Rector for Internationalisation Policies, Prof. Roberto Ranzi, and the Delegate for Relations with European Institutions, Erasmus and the Right to Education, Prof. Corrado Paganelli. This was followed by speeches from the Erasmus Coordinators of the Departments - Prof. Ruth Dominguez (Department of Economics and Management), Prof. Alessandra Gianoncelli (Department of Molecular and Translational Medicine), Prof. Anna Taboni (Department of Clinical and Experimental Sciences), Prof. Maria Antonietta Vincenti (Department of Information Engineering) and Prof. Antonio Visioli (Department of Mechanical and Industrial Engineering) – and EMIMEP Project Manager Frederic Fabre.

Finally, the services offered by the International Mobility Office were presented. Together with the International Welcome Office, this office will support students throughout their stay in Brescia. The Welcome Day was also attended by representatives from the Brescia branch of ESN – Erasmus Student Network, which organises numerous recreational and integration activities for incoming students (such as sporting events, cultural initiatives, trips around the local area and to other Italian cities).

At the end of the ceremony, information stands were also available from:

·         CLA – University Language Centre

·         Inclusion, Participation and Student Space Office – University Residences and Canteens

·         ESN – Erasmus Student Network

·         AEGEE – Association des États Généraux des Étudiants de l’Europe

Thanks to the collaboration with the Revenue Agency, students will have the opportunity to request and obtain their tax code directly at the university headquarters in Via San Faustino.

The well-established collaboration with the Municipality of Brescia and Brescia Mobilità also continues, thanks to which Erasmus students will be able to take advantage of free public transport passes for the entire duration of their mobility period.

Most students participating in the Erasmus+ European mobility programme come from Germany (11), France (9) and Spain (7), followed by Lithuania and the Netherlands (3 students per country), Great Britain, Portugal, Romania, Sweden, Turkey and Hungary (2 students per country), and Austria and Greece (1 student per country). Most students will study at the Department of Economics and Management (24), 19 will be enrolled in the Engineering Departments and 4 will take courses in the medical disciplines.

The 26 students enrolled in the prestigious and innovative Erasmus Mundus EMIMEP joint master's degree programme - Erasmus Master on Innovative Microwave Electronics and Photonics, developed in collaboration with the University of Limoges (France), the University of the Basque Country (Spain) and Friedrich Schiller University in Jena (Germany), come from all over the world: Egypt, Iran, Ethiopia, Ghana, Palestine, Burundi, Kosovo, Pakistan, Germany, Gabon, Kenya, Sudan, Kazakhstan, Tunisia, Morocco, India, Spain and Turkey.
