The Observatory originated from the transformation of the Centre for Study and Research on Cardio-Respiratory Diseases and Cognitive Impairment in Older Adults, established in March 2000 with funding provided by the Farina Family. The Scientific Director of the Centre was Prof. Giuseppe Romanelli.

Three-Year Research Programme (2014-2016)
The Observatory aims to strengthen and expand research activities in the field of cardiovascular and cognitive disorders affecting older adults, with particular emphasis on:
- Advancing research on cardiovascular diseases and cognitive impairment in the geriatric population.
- Developing studies and investigations into the pathophysiology of ageing.
- Investigating ageing processes and their relationship with cognitive decline and impairment.
- Designing and conducting epidemiological studies on disease clusters and disease networks.
- Developing research on therapeutic approaches for older patients and on the appropriateness of prescribing practices, with particular reference to cardio-respiratory diseases, including through e-learning methodologies.
- Promoting research into technology-assisted diagnosis of cognitive impairment, through the use of both advanced diagnostic equipment and next-generation software solutions.
