The Coordination Center for Research and Services on Nutraceuticals and Functional Foods for Health—NutriFun4Health—has been established within the Department of Molecular and Translational Medicine (DMMT) at the University of Brescia, with its administrative headquarters located within the same department.
The center promotes scientific research in the agri-food and nutraceutical fields for the prevention, treatment, and management of major chronic diseases linked to lifestyle and diet, and aims to:
• foster innovation and competitiveness in the agri-food and nutraceutical sectors to support community well-being through a systematic and multidisciplinary scientific model.
• lead to the development and/or validation of new nutraceutical products whose properties are guaranteed by studies conducted with high methodological rigor, in accordance with current regulations and guidelines issued by leading institutions operating in the field of nutraceutical products and quality certification.
• To provide companies operating in the field of health-promoting food products (nutraceuticals, foods for special medical purposes, fortified foods, and, more generally, functional foods) with services aimed at developing new products, improving their quality by ensuring their safety and efficacy on a robust scientific basis, and supporting them in applying for nutritional and/or health claims, in accordance with applicable regulations.
• Promote training and outreach activities on the center’s areas of focus
The strength of the NutriFun4Health research center lies in its multidisciplinary approach, drawing on expertise in the agri-food, botanical, chemical, pharmaceutical chemistry, pharmaceutical technology, pharmacological, and clinical fields.
NutriFun4Health aims to be an inclusive and dynamic organization dedicated to conducting high-level research and offering cutting-edge services, in collaboration with Italian and international research institutes, local manufacturers, and public and private entities.
Among the Center’s activities is participation in the CIBOVIVIS Research Project for the sustainable development of a new-generation food product derived from byproducts of the wine production chain, funded by the European Agricultural Fund for Rural Development (EAFRD), which arose from a collaboration with the Spallanzani Institute in Rivolta d’Adda, the innovative startup CiboCi in Montichiari, and Barone Pizzini in Provaglio d’Iseo.
