YouTube Live is a tool, integrated into the G Suite system provided by the University, that allows you to broadcast live video on the YouTube platform. It can, for example, be used to hold lectures and online teaching.
Initial activation of the service
To activate Live Streaming, go to the "Access to Live Streaming" site listed in the related sites section. On first access you will be asked to complete activation; you will need to provide a phone number to receive an access code. After 24 hours you will be able to carry out your first Live Streaming session.
Broadcasting live with a webcam
To broadcast Live Streaming sessions, go to the "Access to Live Streaming" site listed in the related sites section.
By clicking the "CREATE" button and then "Go live", you can start a broadcast session using your webcam. Before starting, you can set some parameters:
from the drop-down menu that appears, select which camera and microphone to use;
enter the title of the stream;
select the visibility of the session: Public (visible to the whole Internet) or Unlisted (visible only to those who have the access link);
among the advanced settings, you can choose whether to enable (default) or disable the chat for the video, through which viewers can interact.
Once you have set the desired options, click "NEXT". You will be asked to take a photo to use as the video thumbnail (the representative image shown when the video is not playing). Alternatively, you can upload an image. Once this step is complete, click "GO LIVE" to start streaming.
The red "END STREAM" button lets you end the stream. To the left of this button there is an arrow; clicking it will show the URL of the ongoing stream, which can be copied and sent to the desired users (for example by e-mail).
Publishing and editing the video
Once finished, the stream will also be available as a recorded video. After recording, you can also change some parameters such as the title and description, the video thumbnail or the visibility. You can also delete the video you created.
Alternatively, you can also upload pre-recorded videos.
