The group
The TECHNICAL SYSTEMS ENGINEERING research group deals with the techno-economic design of technical and service systems, project management, environmental footprint assessment, quality management, maintenance management, energy management (integration of renewable energy and energy efficiency solutions) and sustainability analysis. Particular attention is paid to the mathematical modeling of the systems studied.
Research activity
The research activity of the TECHNICAL SYSTEMS ENGINEERING group is mainly aimed at the development of innovative methodologies for the design and management of facilities and services in their various aspects, as well as at the development of decision support models for evaluating the sustainability of the systems including agrifood chains.
The group has developed research lines dedicated to the construction of techno-economic optimization models particularly declined to the analysis of the exploitation of the different types of renewable resources.
Another topic of specialization of the research group is the integration of the energy aspects in traditional systems design and management models. Activities in this area ranged from the development of innovative energy auditing models to the techno-economic study of particular energy efficiency interventions.
Experimental activities have been carried out for the development of these research, extensively using software and techniques of simulation and analytical modeling and joint linear / non-linear optimization or through the development of dedicated heuristics.
The research activity of the group is variously framed in international, European, national cooperation programs and in research programs of a local nature, as well as involving numerous research contracts funded by private companies.
