The theme of inequalities, multiple discriminations (gender, ethnicity, age, religion, etc.) and the intersectionality between these factors is still extremely pregnant in contemporary Western culture, particularly in a historical and social context characterised by marked uncertainty, insecurity, precariousness and dissatisfaction such as the current one. Despite the dissemination of rhetoric according to which life paths, educational choices and careers are characterised by total freedom of choice - and contexts free from discrimination on several fronts and inequalities - women, for instance, are still underrepresented in the highest levels of organisational hierarchies (OECD, 2024) and in STEM contexts (AlmaLaurea, 2024). This makes people more vulnerable to inequalities in educational and professional planning, generating a sense of unease, anxiety and concern on multiple levels. This is compounded by the persistence of barriers - internal and external - cultural, ethnic and stereotypical, as well as more subtle forms of discrimination (e.g. Gender Pay Gap) that continue to have a significant impact on lives, limiting the possibilities of choice, the realisation of good educational pathways and ‘serene’ participation in academic life.
The project on wellbeing ‘UNBEN-PI’, in line B ‘research-intervention on psychological malaise generated by gender stereotypes and multiple discriminations’, uses Life Design (Savickas, 2012) as a theoretical-practical approach of reference in the field of Orientation. In this perspective, the lines of activity - addressed to the students of the various Bachelor's and/or Master's degree courses, including STEM degrees, ‘traditional’ and ‘non-traditional’ students, male and female workers, second generations, etc. - envisage: i) a research-intervention project on the perception of stereotypes and discrimination (e.g. gender, ethnicity, etc.). gender, ethnicity, etc.) on the identification of internal and external barriers and effective circumvention processes; ii) a psychological Career Counselling Service for the development and support of training and professional planning through individual and collective paths.
Specifically, the intervention envisages reflections, discussions and workshops with 4 online group meetings - lasting 2 hours each. The topics will concern: a) recognition of stereotypes, prejudices and multiple discriminations (gender, age, ethnicity, etc.) as a cognitive and social process; b) knowledge of tools and strategies to counter stereotypes c) development of personal and professional planning d) recognition of asymmetries and forms of gender-based violence as a violation of human rights.
