The University of Brescia achieved significant recognition at the latest edition of the Italian Concrete Conference, held in Florence from June 19 to 21, 2024. During the event, awards were given for the best articles from the previous edition in Naples (2022) and for the best doctoral theses published in the last two years.
The article "Influence of casting procedure on the orientation of the fibers in RC beams" by authors B. Leporace Guimil, A. Conforti, G. Plizzari, F. Sonzogni, and C. Failla won the award for the "Materials and Technologies" section. The youngest author, Dr. Bruno Leporace Guimil, who earned his PhD from the University of Brescia, also received the young membership from the international association Rilem.
The article "Multilevel design approach to 3D printed concrete elements" by authors L. Licciardello, E. Carleschi, S.A. Massari, A. Reggia, G. Metelli, and G. Plizzari received a special mention in the "Design and Construction Issues" section.
Another award went to Dr. Stefano Mantelli, also from the University of Brescia, for one of the two best doctoral theses in Civil Engineering and Architecture, titled "Influence and on-site assessment of long-term prestressing losses on shear strength of bridge girders."
The latest edition of the Italian Concrete Conference saw the participation of over 220 attendees and the presentation of more than 120 papers discussing current topics in construction, such as new materials and technologies to make buildings increasingly safe and sustainable.
