Since 2013, with the adoption of the AVA system, the University of Brescia has implemented an internal Quality Assurance system covering Teaching, Research, Civil Engagement activities, and technical-administrative services.
The organizational chart of the quality system, the quality policy, and the key actors involved in quality assurance are clearly described on the following page: Quality Assurance page of the University of Brescia.
At the departmental level, the implementation of quality procedures for Teaching, Research, and Third Mission (Civil Engagement) is the responsibility of the Departmental Quality Assurance Office, which is structured into three branches: Quality Assurance for Teaching, Quality Assurance for Research, Quality Assurance for Civil Engagement.
In addition to the Teaching Quality Unit, the following actors are also involved in the quality assurance and evaluation of teaching outcomes:
- The Joint Student-Teacher Committee, established by Law No. 240 of December 30, 2010, which is responsible for drafting an annual evaluation report on the quality of the department’s study programs by January 31 of each calendar year;
- The Bachelor's and Master's board, which, through the Review Commission (composed of quality representatives from each study program), is responsible for conducting the annual review of the programs, as required by the AVA system;
- Since 2023, the AVA system has also been extended to doctoral programs. As a result, each PhD program has appointed a Quality Manager (DRIMI, TESPS) who supports the department’s Quality Unit in managing the doctoral program through quality procedures.
At the departmental level, all these actors work synergistically:
- The Quality Units have been assigned broader implementation responsibilities;
- The Bachelors' and Masters' board has both implementation and monitoring functions regarding the educational offer;
- The Joint Student-Teacher Committee, within the scope of quality evaluation, is responsible for monitoring the educational offer, the quality of teaching, and the services provided to students by professors and researchers.
These departmental actors operate within an integrated university-wide framework, which includes the Evaluation Board (NUV) and the University Quality Assurance Office.
