Seahorse XFe24 Analyzer (Agilent)
The Seahorse XFe24 analyzer is a metabolic assay platform enabling real-time bioenergetic parameter monitoring in a 24-well plate format. This technology provides insights into mitochondrial respiration, glycolysis, and ATP production by measuring both oxygen consumption rate (OCR) and extracellular acidification rate (ECAR). The instrument automatically performs compound injection and mixing, analytical detection, and real-time OCR and ECAR measurement. The analysis software can be used online (Seahorse Analytics), or an offline version (Seahorse Wave desktop software) can be downloaded for free.

The technology allows researchers to define the metabolic phenotype of diverse living sample types, including:
- Cultured cells, iPSC-derived cells, and blood cells
- Freshly isolated mitochondria from ex vivo tissues
- 3D cellular models (e.g., organoids)
- Zebrafish embryos and larvae
Application fields include:
- Pharmacology
- Drug discovery
- Immunology
- Oncology
- Neurosciences
- Metabolic diseases
- Cardiovascular diseases
- Primary mitochondrial diseases
Seahorse XFe 24 assays
Various assays can be run, either standard or customized, to answer specific research questions. The instrument is compatible exclusively with dedicated Agilent consumables.
Access to the instrument and training
Users must be adequately trained to acquire the necessary skills and ensure proper use of the instrument. Training courses are organized periodically in cooperation with Agilent.
