Do you study at our university and feel that university stress is sometimes difficult to manage?
Do you feel that your level of psychophysical well-being is not sufficient for you to study effectively or feel good about yourself and others?
Take part in our research project and discover how physical activity and stress management can improve your well-being!
Our project aims to promote and evaluate the effectiveness of an innovative intervention to improve the psychophysical well-being of students at our university.
WHY PARTICIPATE?
The university years represent a period full of opportunities, but at the same time can cause high levels of stress, which negatively affect psychological well-being and performance in studies. Numerous studies show that physical activity is not only important for achieving good physical health, but is also a powerful ally for reducing anxiety and depression and regulating sleep, thus helping to improve concentration, memory and performance during study and exams.
By participating in our study, you will be able to GET FREE ACCESS TO A LOT OF CUS BRESCIA COURSES AND ACTIVITIES and targeted stress management interventions, as well as make your own contribution to research!
HOW DOES THE STUDY WORK?
If you decide to participate in the study, you will randomly be offered to be part of one of the following experimental groups:
Group 1: you will be offered a FREE, online, asynchronous stress management brief intervention; the duration of the intervention will be five weeks and will include 5 modules, which will be self-paced and will include some simple exercises that you can do at any time of the day.
Group 2: you will be offered a multi-component intervention that will include the short stress management intervention proposed in Group 1, in a similar way, together with an exercise programme. Carrying out the exercise programme will involve, FREE OF CHARGE, the membership and medical examination required to access CUS-Brescia activities. Once you are a member, you will be asked to participate, again FREE OF CHARGE, in two activities per week (YOUR CHOICE from a wide range of CUS-Brescia courses and activities), for a period of 10 consecutive weeks.
Group 3: you will be asked to act as a control and therefore no intervention will be proposed to you.
If you participate in the research you will also be asked to fill in some short questionnaires: before the start of the intervention, at the end and after 3 months. These questionnaires will take about 15 minutes to complete.
WHAT IF YOU END UP IN A GROUP THAT DOES NOT INCLUDE THE ACTIVITIES YOU WOULD LIKE TO PARTICIPATE IN?
Don't worry: those who will be assigned to group 1 and group 3, at the end of the study will have FREE access to both the stress management programme and the CUS activities for a duration of 10 weeks.
Participation in this study is voluntary. You may withdraw from the study at any time, without explanation and without any negative consequences.
WHO CAN PARTICIPATE?
To be eligible to participate, you must meet the following criteria:
- Be enrolled in Bachelor's, Master's or Single-Cycle degree courses at the University of
Brescia at the time of recruitment.
- Have a sufficient command of the Italian language.
- Not have a physical condition or illness that prevents or makes exercise risky.
- Not already carry out average weekly physical activity at an intense level: if you already do
a lot of physical activity or train for some sport consistently, it will not be possible for you to
take part in the study.
WHEN DO THE ACTIVITIES START?
The experimental activities will start between mid-March and mid-April 2025.
