Policy areas

According to the recommendation expressed in the Vademecum for the Development of the Gender Equality Plan (GEP) in Italian Universities, the GEP defines objectives for each area of intervention and several related actions. Each strategic action provides indicators, addressees, responsibilities and dedicated resources.

AREA 1: ORGANISATIONAL CULTURE AND WORK/LIFE BALANCE

  • establishment of the gender policy Referent Person and pursuit of gender equality as a strategic objective of the technical-administrative staff;
  • revision of the University website and documentation from a gender and inclusive perspective;
  • training on gender issues, stereotypes and inclusive use of language;
  • work-life balance facilities;
  • grants for kindergartens and summer centres access, conventions with recreational spaces;
  • support after the return of maternity/paternity leave or after prolonged periods;
  • flexible working hours for parents with children up to 12 years of age;
  • seminars on parenting support and shared care.

AREA 2: GENDER BALANCE IN TOP POSITIONS IN DECISION-MAKING BODIES

  • greater oversight of gender issues by empowering  the University governance;
  • establishment of a University Gender Commission, implementation of the Gender Equality Plan and Gender Balance;
  • surveys and workshops on leadership - self-esteem - teamwork, with a gender approach for empowering the capabilities in government roles of the underrepresented gender ;
  • increasing the presence of the under-represented gender in the top positions of elected, mixed and non-elective academic bodies.

AREA 3: GENDER EQUALITY IN RECRUITMENT AND CAREER PROGRESSION

  • job positions mapping and surveys to learn about and raise awareness about horizontal and vertical segregation;
  • adoption of measures and initiatives to foster gender balance in both the horizontal and vertical dimensions of career advancement.

AREA 4: GENDER MAINSTREAMING IN RESEARCH AND TEACHING PROGRAMMES

  • mapping of gender balance in research teams, checking the inclusion of gender-related issues in publications, funded projects and research expertise of teams or individual researchers, training events for teachers and researchers aimed at training on the relevance of the gender dimension in research;
  • drafting a volume for the Brixia University Press series on the female component of the University, its historical evolution, achievements;
  • survey on the inclusion of gender related topics in activities for the local community, specific training of staff involved in activities pursuing a social impact on the territory in order to enhance the economic, social and innovation contribution;
  • training proposals to implement knowledge and skills related to gender equality: optional interdisciplinary extracurricular courses, lessons for new students;
  • gender mainstreaming in guidance at primary and secondary schools through a gender education perspective.

AREA 5: CONTRASTING GENDER-BASED VIOLENCE INCLUDING SEXUAL HARASSMENT

  • awareness-raising and training on gender-based violence in cooperation with existing territorial networks; 
  • surveys on the perception of gender-based violence, production of information material, annual multidisciplinary workshop also open to citizens, annual participatory workshops for academic staff, training courses; 
  • presentation and support of the Trustee Gender-Based Violence Counselor(s) and Student Guarantor(s) in study courses, through meetings organised in the Departmental Councils; 
  • activation of an anonymous mobile phone number for support/complaint requests;
  • strengthening of a psychological desk.
