Early legal traineeship qualifying for the profession of lawyer

requirements, procedures and deadlines

In order to sit the State examination for qualification to practise as a lawyer, it is necessary to
complete an 18-month traineeship, consisting of ‘the training, with theoretical and practical
content, of the trainee lawyer aimed at enabling him to acquire the skills necessary for the
practice of the profession of lawyer and the management of a law firm as well as to learn and
comply with ethical principles and deontological rules’.

Pursuant to Article 41(6)(d) of Law No 247 of 31 December 2012, New Rules governing the
Legal Profession, the traineeship may be carried out ‘d) for no more than six months,
concurrently with the course of study for a degree, by students regularly enrolled in the final
year of the course of study for a degree in law in the case provided for in Article 40’.

In order to enable the early traineeship to be carried out, the University of Brescia has entered
into an agreement with:

  • the Brescia Bar Association Council;
  • the Cremona Bar Association Council.

In order to carry out the traineeship semester in the final year of the Master of Laws degree
course:
- from April to October with thesis defence in the October session; or
- from October to April with thesis defence in the April session,
students must submit their application and the necessary documentation by midnight on 10
March; or - on 10 September, respectively.

Applications received after the deadline will not be considered. All applications will be
examined together from the day of the deadline for submitting applications. If the application
submitted is incomplete or not accompanied by the required documentation, the applicant will
be given a short period of time to complete the application or documentation. At the end of the
examination of all the applications, a meeting will be convened (if possible, in presence,
otherwise, remotely) with the participation of the students who have submitted an application
and the contact persons of the Bar Association Council for the identification of the lawyers
with whom the traineeship will be carried out.
