The Department

The Department of Clinical and Experimental Sciences (hereinafter referred to as “DSCS”) was established in 2010 and is composed of a broad base resulting from the almost complete merger of the pre-existing Departments of Medical and Surgical Sciences and Maternal and Child Health, supplemented by the inclusion of members from other Departments.

The clinical expertise within the DSCS and its close interconnection with basic disciplines fully address the needs of educational pathways with strong clinical relevance (Degree Programs in Medicine and Surgery, Health Area Specialization Schools), as well as a wide range of undergraduate and graduate degree programs in the health professions and scientific fields. These programs aim to promote physical, psychological, and social well-being, taking into account the current and future epidemiological landscape. The multidisciplinary aggregation of the DSCS has also facilitated the development of integrated research activities focused on the physiopathological and clinical-therapeutic study of cardiovascular and cerebrovascular, hematological, endocrine-metabolic, immunological, infectious, neurological, psychiatric, psychological and rehabilitative, oncological, and pulmonary diseases, covering conditions ranging from the maternal and pediatric sphere to adulthood and geriatrics.

The third mission activities carried out by the DSCS are primarily focused on the field of health and well-being, directing its scientific and educational expertise both toward the delivery of excellence in healthcare services and toward initiatives aimed at promoting the development of health culture within civil society. The Department conducts its activities in four main areas: Education, Research, Social Engagement, and Internationalization.

The Department has its administrative headquarters at the Centro Polifunzionale on Viale Europa and at the ASST Spedali Civili; additionally, some clinical and research units operate at satellite locations
