Teaching Methods for the Academic Year 2025/2026

Lectures are delivered in person. For synchronous online teaching activities, professors are required to be physically present within university facilities, including off-campus locations used by degree programmes. The professor may connect remotely only for degree programmes officially established in blended mode or for lectures scheduled outside standard university opening hours, provided a stable and efficient internet connection is ensured.

Up to one third of the total lecture hours for conventional degree programmes may be delivered online, excluding practical and laboratory activities. Online delivery may be permitted with the agreement of the Degree Programme Council and in coordination with other lectures scheduled for the same year and semester. Typically, the ratio is 1/3 online and 2/3 in-person per lecture, as specified in the syllabus.

For blended deree programmes, between one third and two thirds of the total lecture hours may be delivered online, subject to the agreement of the Degree Programme Council and proper coordination. The general rule is a maximum of two thirds online and one third in person per lecture, clearly stated in the syllabus.

Full online delivery of a lecture exceeding the standard limits mentioned above is permitted in the following cases:

  • For international students who are unable to travel due to documented force majeure or are awaiting the issuance of a visa;
  • Students enrolled in degree programmes who fall under the following conditions:
    •  In cases of serious health conditions (injury or illness with a medical certificate and a prognosis exceeding 15 days, issued by a general practitioner);
    • In the presence of a certified disability, in accordance with the guidelines provided by UOC Inclusione e Partecipazione.
    • During the last two months of pregnancy and/or the first six months after childbirth for students with parental responsibilities (upon submission of appropriate documentation);
    • For student-athletes participating in the Dual Career programme during periods of documented sports activities.

Students who wish to opt out of distance learning must notify their professor in writing. All professors are expected to provide teaching materials and resources for proper exam preparation through the university’s e-learning platform. These materials may include slides, handouts, or lecture recordings. The organisation of the lecture timetable generally takes the following factors into account:

  • classroom capacity;
  • possible continuity of on-site commitments;
  • the time slot for lectures, which runs between 8:00 AM and 7:00 PM across all departments.
  • In exceptional cases, the timetable may be extended to include lectures on Saturdays.

REQUEST FOR DISTANCE LEARNING

Requests must be submitted mandatory by:

  • Sending an email to the professor in charge of the course (Contact list);
  • Submitting a ticket to the Student Services under the category "Studying," subcategory "Request for remote lectures/exams," attaching the appropriate certification, the request form for exemption from in-person lectures, and a copy of a valid ID.

Request for Exemption from In-Person Attendance of Lectures (ITA)

Profit Exams
Profit exams are normally conducted in person.

However, exceptions to this rule may be granted, provided that appropriate measures are taken to clearly identify candidates and ensure the exams are properly conducted. Exceptions can be allowed in cases such as:

a) specific personal circumstances, including students with serious and documented medical conditions or disabilities under Law 104/1992 and Law 7/1999, or students in detention, following guidelines set by the Ministry of Justice - Department of Penitentiary Administration in coordination with the National Conference of Rectors’ Delegates for University Penitentiary Centers;

b) temporary emergency situations that make it possible to offer distance learning and to hold exams remotely, including final exams. In these cases, the university must obtain prior approval from the Ministry before activating remote teaching or exam sessions.

REQUEST FOR EXCEPTION TO ATTEND PROFIT EXAMS IN PERSON

If you need to request an exception to take written exams remotely, you must send your request along with proper documentation at least 2 working days before the exam:

UNIBS students participating in international mobility programs (such as Erasmus, double degree agreements, or thesis activities abroad) may be allowed to take a profit exam remotely if they are abroad for academic reasons.

The exam must be taken in an institutional setting at the host foreign institution, supervised by a faculty member or academic representative of that institution, in accordance with Italian regulations which require physical presence during the exam.

This option may be authorized for only one profit exam, usually the last one needed to complete the degree program, provided that the nature of the exam allows it to be conducted remotely.

Any exceptions or additional conditions must be evaluated on a case-by-case basis by the Degree Program Council, in compliance with UNIBS guidelines and current regulations.

Degree ceremonies — including bachelor's, master's, and single-cycle master's degrees — as well as final exams for PhD programs, medical and non-medical specializations, master’s degrees, and advanced training courses are held in person.

Students who face the obstructive conditions described in point 3 are allowed to take the final exam remotely, simultaneously with the in-person sessions, subject to authorization from the Department Director.

Students involved in double degree programs may take the final exam remotely by connecting online from the partner institution.

Request for Exception to Degree / Final Exam

Each professor guarantees in-person office hours for students, following methods and schedules that must be published on the university’s website page.

Office hours can also be held remotely by appointment, either by agreement with the professor or when applicable conditions are met (see paragraph "Lessons").

Teaching activities and tests at the University Language Center (CLA) may take place either in person or remotely, including outside the usual time slots (see paragraph "Lessons"), in line with the educational objectives of the course, provided that no University Academic Credits are awarded.

The provisions regarding the methods of delivering teaching activities also apply to the teaching activities of PhD programs and non-medical specialization schools.

Lessons may be held either in person or remotely, in accordance with the educational objectives of the course.
