The Department of Law of the University of Brescia is participating, for the second time (following its involvement in the 2018 P.O.T. programme), in the national Orientation and Tutoring Project, coordinated by the University of Pavia.
Through the various project activities, particular emphasis is placed on student guidance and support. These activities include orientation initiatives for prospective students, such as events presenting the educational offer of the Department, also organised in collaboration with professional associations. The project further supports students throughout their academic journey through workshops on the use of the University Library's digital resources and on the preparation of academic bibliographies. In addition, innovative teaching methods are promoted through a variety of initiatives, including lectures delivered by Italian and international guest speakers aimed at enhancing students' soft skills, as well as through the Legal Clinics and the Labour Law Clinic and the methodologies associated with them.
The educational approach underlying the activities developed by the Brescia Unit combines experiential learning methods, focused on problem-solving and the development of soft skills, with the social justice objectives that are central to legal clinical education. Alongside educational and pedagogical goals, the project seeks to engage students with issues arising from the application of the law from the perspective of rights protection and justice. It aims to demonstrate that law can be studied and applied not only in its technical dimension but also in its social dimension, while encouraging reflection on the legal, ethical, and social issues raised by cases involving matters of public interest and some of the most vulnerable members of society.
Among the activities most closely aligned with these objectives are the institutional courses Legal Clinic I, Legal Clinic II, and Labour Law Clinic. In addition, the Department offers PCTO programmes (Pathways for Transversal Skills and Career Guidance) focused on issues of significant social relevance and on the development of competencies that are also valuable in choosing a university pathway. These include teamwork, peer training, public presentation of project outcomes, and the sharing of results with participating secondary schools.
