Thursday 4 June, starting at 3.00 pm in the Seminar Room at Via Valotti 9. Speaker Alice Lacaze-Masmonteil
Department of Mathematics and Statistics, University of Regina, SK, Canada, will give a seminar entitled:
Hamiltonian decompositions of graph products
Abstract.
A graph is said to be Hamiltonian decomposable if it can be decomposed into Hamiltonian cycles. The question of whether a Hamiltonian decomposition exists has been investigated for numerous classes of graphs, including complete graphs, certain Cayley graphs and the Paley graph, to name but a few. One particular class of graphs of interest are those that arise as the product of two graphs. A natural question is whether the product of two Hamiltonian decomposable graphs is also Hamiltonian decomposable. In this talk, I will show that the answer to this question is often affirmative by reviewing results on the Hamiltonian decomposition of various products of Hamiltonian decomposable graphs. I will also demonstrate how Hamiltonian decompositions of graph products can be applied to tackle fundamental problems in cycle decomposition. Finally, I will discuss some recent results on directed Hamiltonian decompositions.
The seminar will be held in a hybrid format

This series of three seminars, organised as part of the internationalisation activities of the Department of Civil Engineering, Architecture, Territory, Environment and Mathematics (DICATAM) at the University of Brescia, addresses the theme of architectural design in relation to the landscape and environmental, climatic and cultural changes that characterise the contemporary context.
The lectures, delivered by Prof. Juan Manuel Palerm Salazar, Visiting Professor at the Department, offer a critical reflection on the role of architectural design in defining new spatial models, in the relationship between the built environment and the landscape, and in the configuration of public space as an expression of a new environmental and collective perception.
• 10 November 2025:
The crisis of the spatial model in architecture: towards a new archetype.
Analysis of contemporary spatial models and a reflection on the role of architecture in redefining the relationships between the built environment and the natural environment.
• 17 November 2025:
Towards a critical interpretation of the landscape through architectural design.
The landscape as a tool for design and knowledge. Critical and interpretative approaches for an architecture that is mindful of environmental and social transformations.
• 24 November 2025:
The landscape dimension in the design and construction of public space.
The design of public space as a place where architecture, nature and the community intersect. Design strategies for a new landscape dimension of the contemporary city.

14 March marks International Mathematics Day, also known as Pi Day, and hundreds of events are organised around the world.
Each year, the day has a specific theme; this year’s is:
Mathematics, Art and Creativity.
But why 14 March in particular? The reason is that when this date is written in the format commonly used in much of the English-speaking world – month first, then day – the result is 3.14, which is the best-known approximation of pi, the most famous mathematical constant, denoted by the Greek letter π, chosen as the first letter of περιφέρεια (perifereia), meaning ‘circumference’ in Greek.

Gevrey class for locally three-phase-lag thermoelastic beam system
Abstract: In this lecture, we examine the behaviour of solutions to the three-phase-lag heat equation with localised dissipation in an Euler–Bernoulli beam model. We show that the semigroup S(t) associated with the problem is of Gevrey class 5 for t ≥ 0. Furthermore, if the coefficients of the system are such that the operator is dissipative, then the solutions are always exponentially stable.

Cultivating the Landscape in Europe: Between Innovation and Continuity
The talk with Juan Manuel Palerm Salazar, held as part of the
supported by the University of Brescia and in collaboration with the Province of Brescia, aims to provide an opportunity for reflection on the complex management of the European landscape, emphasising the need for a ‘shared vision’ that transcends the
geographical divisions between nations, through a systematic and interdisciplinary approach. Very often, in fact, the concept of landscape is relegated to the ‘background’ in interventions affecting the territory and the city, even though it plays a decisive role in the ‘systematisation’ of urban and natural areas that are heterogeneous in nature.
