Designing for Environmental Sustainability
The pursuit of environmental sustainability in all human activities is now a recognized need. The classic works for the protection of the environment (sewers, purification plants, waste treatment systems, structures to combat hydrogeological instability, gaseous effluent purification systems, etc.) and the related management strategies must be increasingly strengthened and modernized with the use of new engineering techniques, in its various forms, with a distinctly interdisciplinary approach. The great challenges of climate change, resource consumption, the need to adopt models based on the circular economy and the use of renewable energy sources will characterize the coming decades, with the need to reduce the environmental footprint of every activity.
