Off-campus access information

Off-campus access

Institutional users can consult electronic resources both when they use PCs and devices connected to the university network and when they are outside the university facilities (off-campus access).

The service is offered and managed by the University Library System in collaboration with the ICT Services.

Off-campus access is possible in the following ways:

EZproxy

To consult resources from outside the university, users must log in by using their university credentials (see the Account page).

This method is available to all institutional users with active credentials.

OpenVPN (Virtual Private Network)

Through this method, users outside the university facilities can connect to the university network via an encrypted connection. It is necessary to install a specific software and log in with personal university credentials.

After accessing the VPN, users can consult resources as if they were inside the university network.

The service is reserved for professors, researchers, PhD students, specializing students and PTA staff (students cannot use this connection mode to consult electronic resources from outside the university facilities).

Further information is available on the page below.

Spedali Civili

Users working at Spedali Civili can access resources from workstations available within the hospital facilities, logging in with their university credentials before browsing.

Users authenticated via this procedure can access resources as if they were connected to the university network.

N.B.

Some electronic resources cannot be accessed off-campus:

  • resources which can only be consulted on enabled workstations in the libraries or Departments, using credentials entered by the staff;
  • resources for which publishers have placed explicit restrictions in their user licenses

On the Digital library page, users can check whether there are any restrictions on off-campus access.
