Document reproduction

INFORMATION ON THE SERVICE

Multifunction devices are installed in the libraries and in some university locations, allowing users to make photocopies, prints and scans.

The service is managed centrally and is available to both institutional users and external users of the libraries, with different conditions according to their category. For access methods and prices, please see the Printing Services page below.

The reproduction of protected works, in accordance with copyright law, is permitted exclusively for personal use, within the limits of 15% of an entire volume or journal issue; these limits do not apply to works not included in publishing catalogues and difficult to find on the market.

Degree theses and technical regulations may not be reproduced. For conservation reasons, photocopying of antique, valuable, fragile or damage-prone material is not permitted.

The reproduction of documents available in the digital collections may be carried out - by institutional users only - in compliance with the rules established by publishers and distributors in the individual user licenses signed by the University Library System.

LIMITS ON DOCUMENT REPRODUCTION

Paper documents

Reproductions of paper documents available in the university libraries are subject to the limits established by copyright law.

Law no. 633 of 22 April 1941 and subsequent amendments and supplements (Law no. 248 of 18 August 2000 and Legislative Decree no. 68 of 9 April 2003), Art. 68:

“The reproduction of individual works or pieces of works for the personal use of the readers, made by hand or by means of reproduction not suitable for the sale or diffusion of the work to the public, is free”.

“The photocopying of works available in libraries accessible to the public or in school libraries, public museums or public archives, made by the aforementioned entities for their own services, without any direct or indirect economic or commercial advantage, is free”.

“Without prejudice to the prohibition on the reproduction of musical scores and sheet music, the reproduction for personal use of intellectual works made by photocopy, xerocopy or similar systems, within the limits of fifteen per cent of each volume or journal issue, excluding the advertising pages, is permitted”.

[...] The limits mentioned above “do not apply to works not included in publishing catalogues and to rare works, because they are difficult to find on the market”.

“The sale to the public of the copies referred to in the paragraphs above and, generally, any use in competition with the economic usage rights due to the author is prohibited”.

Digital documents

Institutional users can make copies (paper or electronic) of digital format documents found within the electronic resources, in accordance with the terms established by the individual user licenses signed by the University Library System.

Generally, it is permitted to print, download, save and send by e-mail the results of the searches carried out, the texts of individual articles and parts of e-books. However, it is usually forbidden to print entire volumes or significant portions of them.

Copies may only be made for personal use, for the purpose of study, research and teaching, and they must not be distributed or transmitted and are subject to the obligation to cite the source. Any use for profit or commercial purposes is illegal.

Each user is personally responsible for respecting the terms established in the user licenses.
